In a continuation of their 20 year association with Yamaha digital consoles, Event Wave Productions have added the new Rivage PM7 to their rental line up.
Debuting the console while mixing front-of-house at an annual international convention and gala in Anaheim, California, chief engineer Peter Carpentier stated, “there are a lot of great consoles on the market these days, but we still prefer the Yamaha platform for its reliability, speed, and ease of use. In our industry niche of corporate audio, we need to be able to make changes quickly and reliably, and the PM7 certainly continues that tradition.”
“We need to be able to make changes quickly and reliably, and the PM7 continues that tradition.”
According to Ross Goldman, EWP’s principal audio systems designer, “this is one of those shows where the audio I/O requirements seem to grow exponentially. This year we’re supporting a 90 minute gala featuring eight different acts, each with its own unique audio requirements. This is in addition to simultaneous interpretation and reverse translation, talent IFB’s, green room mixes, and multitrack playback. The PM7, with its 120 inputs, 60 mix busses and 180×24 matrix, offers us everything we need to achieve this. Plus, the built-in processing is fantastic. We love the 64-channel Dugan Automixer, the 4-band Dynamic EQ, and the Neve Primary Source Enhancer plug-in.”
Highlights of Event Wave’s audio design included:
- L-Acoustics Kara and Kiva II Line Arrays
- 10 Shure PSM1000 Stereo IEM Mixes
- 25 Shure Digital Wireless Microphones
- 32 Clear-Com HelixNet and FreeSpeak II Digital Intercom Stations
Also, using the Rivage series expanded Dante implementation (144 in and 144 out), EWP made multi-track recordings of all rehearsals to take advantage of the PM7’s convenient Virtual Sound Check feature to fine tune mixes between rehearsals. Said Carpentier, “these rehearsal schedules are tight and there’s only time for one or two passes at a performance, so I’m grateful to have to the ability to revisit these things afterwards”.
The complete Rivage PM7 system will be offered for rental with the HY144-D Dante card, Yamaha’s new Rio3224-D2 I/O racks, and a fully redundant fiber Dante network featuring Yamaha SWP1-16MMF switches.
